Avid Edge And Safety Mate Proudly Support Black Dog Institute

For so long a taboo subject, mental health is becoming widely acknowledged as an important component in business stability, workforce and even productivity.

It is estimated that, at any point in time, 1 in 6 working age men and women will be suffering from mental illness. A further one-sixth of the population will be suffering from symptoms associated with mental ill health such as worry, sleep problems and fatigue which, while not meeting criteria for a diagnosed mental illness, will be affecting their ability to function at work.

Economic analyses consistently show that mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, are costing Australian businesses about $12 billion dollars each year through absenteeism, reduced work performance, increased turnover rates and compensation claims.

Outside of the workplace, the sobering statistics are that 20% of Australians will experience symptoms of mental illness each year and 7.3 million men and women - around 45% of all Australians aged 16 to 85 years - will experience mental illness at some point in their lives.

Avid Edge is proud to support The Black Dog Institute, a not-for-profit which is internationally recognised as a pioneer in the identification, prevention and treatment of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. It is dedicated to researching mental health for all ages, genders and occupations, and supplies programs, tools, information and services backed up by rigorous experiential research.

The Institute also places emphasis on teaching people how to recognise the symptoms of poor mental health in themselves and others and providing them with the right psychological tools to hold the black dog at bay.

To show our support for this important work, our GM Luke Moriarty is running in the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Half Marathon as part of team Black Dog Institute. Taking place on Saturday 3- Sunday 4th July, this fundraising effort is one small way we can give back to a company that is doing so much to help combat mental health in the workplace and the wider community.
